An online course in the techniques of shrine-and-temple sculpture found at shrines and temples across Japan, carving your own piece as you go. Guided by the four guardians — 玄武, 白虎, 青龍, and 朱雀 — you'll carve a tsumami plate, Mt. Fuji, cherry blossoms, and more across six sessions. Your teacher is the head of Toyoda Chokoku Koubou, with 30 years of experience in shrine-and-temple sculpture. Instruction starts from how to hold the carving knife, so first-timers can carve their way through to a finished piece. Graduates become eligible to apply for an in-person visit to the workshop — a tour, hands-on practice, and a shrine visit.
