Marumo Takagi Toki
Ichinokura, a hillside district of Tajimi in Gifu, is known for one thing above all: the ochoko, the small cup you drink sake from. At the experience studio run by Marumo Takagi Toki you glaze and fire one yourself. You brush the glaze on by hand, then set the cup straight into a bed of open charcoal. How you lay the colour and how the fire takes it decide what comes out, so no two cups are alike — and yours is cool enough to carry home the same day. The morning starts in the gallery and showroom before the group moves to the studio, and an interpreter arranged by LIVAPON stays with you throughout.
